Nance and I were in Key Largo the last 2 weeks and I took these pictures of the entrance to AO. As you can see the America Outdoors logo on the sign is now gone and you can see the chain link fence closing off the entrance. I took these pictures on Saturday May 21 and the chain link fence was locked. During the week they have it open on one side for the sales office. No construction has started yet and we heard they still need more permits and also they have to replace any Gumbo Limbo tree they cut down and this will cost them millions. It is so sad to see what is happening, especially after being there for 30 years. We bought a home in Silver Shores and settled on it last Tuesday. This will enable us to remain in the Key Largo area for the winter months or as long as we want. Silver shores is a great community and there are several former AO families there. The homes are moving a little slow right now and there are some very good buys. Well you can add these pictures to the web site and hope to see you guys at the reunion.

10/15/06 - These pictures below were sent in by Laurie Comeau. She writes:

I was at A.O. today. Johnny Edwards (John's son from Georgia) was here too, but I missed him. They started in earnest today. In one day, half the trees were gone. Sad.

I think they will be letting the fire department practice on the buildings before they come down in a week or so. The beach and Marina look exactly the same, they have to keep the beach looking good for prospective buyers. I will send more pictures as soon as possible.

Well, they tore her down today. Such a small pile from such a large building! ...I don't know how well the colors in the sky will show, but it was bright orange! Notice the old mail box Gary?

Thought you would like to see the latest at AO. The whole office complex is now gone and you can see the bay clearly from the highway. The roads within the old park are mostly torn up. The tree's that remain look real bad. Nance and I are at Silver Shores now fixing up the home we purchased. It is real sad to drive by and see this now. The Edwards home is still there and they use that still for the sales office. It was raining the day I snapped the picture.
